Frequently Asked Questions
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO MAKE MY DRESS?
We require at least four months, recommend six months and prefer nine months. This is reflective of demand in busy periods and also guarantees we have time to order fabrics that may take as long as three months to be made.
Part of the longer time requirement depends on your availability for fittings and your flexibility is appreciated.
If you need a rush order please contact us as soon as possible. A rush fee might be applied depending on how quickly you need your dress.
I’VE SEEN THE PERFECT DRESS, CAN YOU RECREATE IT?
We do not make exact copies of other designers clothing, but if there are elements you prefer we can use those to inspire a similar design.
CAN I BRING MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO MY APPOINTMENTS?
Yes absolutely! We encourage bringing your wedding party or bridesmaids to your fittings.
HOW MANY FITTINGS WILL I NEED?
The minimum is three fittings but in many cases we require more to make sure everything is perfect.
WHAT IF I’M LATE OR NEED TO RESCHEDULE MY APPOINTMENT?
Please let us know if you need to reschedule for any reason and we’ll make a new appointment.
It is important that you arrive for your appointments on time so that we have adequate time to work with you on your design and fitting. If you are running late please let us know so we can adapt or reschedule.
WHAT ABOUT FOUNDATION GARMENTS?
Lingerie will be discussed at your initial consultation and your design will be built with your choice in mind, but in general, we design dresses with structured bodices so there is no need for extra support.
If you are wearing a bra or corset you need bring the right lingerie to each and every fitting as it makes a decided difference in how your dress fits. And, for best result we highly recommended clients with plus size bra cups source appropriate foundation garments from specialists. We encourage all clients to get properly fitted, for the best results.
As an alternative, we can create custom wedding lingerie and foundation garments if you prefer to have something hand made.
WHEN DO I COLLECT MY DRESS?
Most brides arrange to collect their dress two or three days before their wedding – it will be steamed and pressed – all ready for the big day. We also offer a delivery and dressing service.
WHAT IF MY WEIGHT CHANGES OR I PLAN TO LOSE WEIGHT?
This is not a problem. We always cut with generous seam allowances meaning normal fluctuations in weight are easily accommodated. If you are trying to lose weight we can reserve your sewing time for a period closer to your wedding to allow you to reach your target weight before construction begins… but there is always a plan for the dress to be altered to fit as we go along.
Please let us know at your first fitting if you are planning on losing weight so we can schedule your fittings accordingly. You will end up with a rush fee if you lose several dress sizes without letting us know because your dress patterns will have to be completely re-drafted.
The final fitting is usually a couple of weeks before the wedding so that we can achieve the perfect fit for your wedding day.
Maternity: We are also experienced at making dresses for expectant and new mothers, creating the dress at appropriate points in your pregnancy or after the birth.
WHAT IF I DON’T LIKE IT?
The beauty of this process is that you are in complete control throughout the entire journey. We don’t simply sketch a design and then bring you the finished garment. You are able to see the design take shape through several stages and make changes or add details at any part of the process. The likelihood of your dress not being as you imagined is actually very slim.
